Anna’s day of leaving the maternity ward was supposed to be the start of her happiest chapter. Holding her tiny son in her arms, she dreamed of a life together in their cozy apartment. However, reality turned out to be brutal and merciless.
As soon as she crossed the threshold of their home, her husband Marek, without any warning or hint of remorse, announced that their marriage was over. Behind him stood another, much younger woman, who had already started arranging her belongings in the living room. Marek, the man she trusted implicitly, tossed her suitcases onto the stairwell and slammed the door, leaving his wife with a newborn in her arms, without money or a roof over her head in the midst of a chilly autumn.
Desperate, Anna, with no family to turn to, spent the first nights in crowded homeless shelters. Each day was a struggle for survival, for diapers and a little food. When her last savings ran out, and stress caused her lactation to cease, Anna realized she had to take a step she always wanted to avoid.
She reached to the bottom of her bag and pulled out an old velvet cloth, inside which was wrapped a family treasure – a gold necklace with a large, deep sapphire. It was a keepsake from her grandmother, who on her deathbed made Anna promise to sell it only in a situation of ultimate life threat. Anna felt that moment had come.
She went to the most prestigious jewelry store in town, looking extremely destitute. People in line moved away from her in disgust, and the security guard watched her every move closely. When she finally sat in front of the older, distinguished jeweler and placed the jewelry on the counter, a heavy silence fell in the room.
The man silently put a magnifying glass to the gemstone, but after a few seconds, he jerked it away. His face, once calm and professional, suddenly turned ghostly pale. The elderly man’s hands began to tremble so much that he had to lean on the counter to avoid falling. Without a word of explanation, he pressed a hidden button and ran to the back room, leaving a bewildered Anna alone.
Before she could gather her things and flee, the door of the salon burst open with a bang, and two policemen rushed in. Anna, overwhelmed with tears, was sure her grandmother had unknowingly left her a stolen item and that she would now lose custody of her child.
However, the jeweler, returning from the back with a thick historical catalog, shouted to the officers not to arrest the woman but to protect her. It turned out the necklace bore a unique engraving hidden inside the setting, identifying it as the ‘Blue Heart of Heritage’ – a priceless artifact lost during the war turmoil. More importantly, ownership of this jewel automatically made Anna the sole heir to a vast fortune and properties, about which Marek had long been aware and had tried to deceitfully claim by throwing her out of the house so she couldn’t assert her rights.
